Mahatma Gandhi said, “Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.” Part of the beauty and fragility of life is in the mistakes we make.
The most profound lessons and insights of wisdom are often within our mistakes, garnered amidst moments of darkness or decisions we later regret. In my view, a considerable portion of our life’s decisions are, in essence, mistakes.
The richest leanings, the deepest wisdom, emerge from those very missteps and challenging times when we tread paths we wish we had avoided. Mistakes can sometimes be so miniscule that they are hardly noticeable, their impact barely measurable. Or they can be transformative, life-altering. Yet, they are also catalysts for change, innovation, and growth.
As we celebrate the vibrant festival of Holi, with its kaleidoscope of colours and jubilant festivities, we can draw parallels to the beauty of embracing our mistakes. Just as each colour adds depth and richness to the canvas of life, so do our mistakes contribute to the tapestry of our experiences. Let us also immerse ourselves in the invaluable lessons that come from our missteps. Holi reminds us that life is a colourful journey, encompassing both joyous moments and learning opportunities within our mistakes.
When we can understand this, we stop being fearful of making mistakes. Then we can courageously follow our dreams, leave our comfort zones, and offer forgiveness to ourselves.
Tell me – is there something important you learnt from making a mistake? It is this sharing of knowledge and such lessons from mistakes that benefits all of us and pushes us forward as a collective. On this Holi let us join in this journey towards growth and wisdom.
I will be sharing more like this in my book, which will be published very soon.
