Those who know me well, know my passion for movies and how they have shaped my storytelling. Movies have a unique ability to delve deep into the societal issues, challenging viewers to confront uncomfortable truths and sparkling conversations on pressing matters.
The Power of Cinema and Civic Duty:
Films such as Article 15, Jai Bhim, Kashmir Files, Mulk, Anek and Pink serve as powerful mirrors reflecting prevalent social biases, injustices and inequalities. Through powerful storytelling, these films not only entertain but also encourage viewers to think critically about the world around them. For me, such movies transcend boundaries and evoke emotions that resonate deeply within my narratives, influencing the essence of my work.
In a society where awareness and activism are crucial for fostering change, the influence of movies goes beyond the screen. Today on his 133rd birth anniversary, I reflect on Dr B. R. Ambedkar’s resounding call to, ‘Educate, Agitate, Organize.’ These movies ‘educate’ audiences on important social issues, ‘agitate’ their minds to spark conversations, and ‘organize’ their thoughts to take action. Just as cinema has the power to awaken our social consciousness and shed the light on injustice, it can also inspire us to actively participate in shaping a better world.
Mahatma Gandhi said, “The future depends on what you do today.”
As we stand at the threshold of change and heed to the call ‘Educate, Agitate, Organize’, I add one more vital element: “Vote.” Exercising our franchise is not only just a right but our responsibility. Let every vote cast be a testament to our commitment to a better tomorrow built on the foundations of unity, equality and progress. Each vote cast is a voice raised, a choice made, and a step towards shaping the collective destiny of our great nation. With the upcoming General Elections in India commencing on 19th April 2024, our individual votes collectively steer the course of our nation’s future.
My heartiest congratulations to all the first time voters who have either reached or surpassed the significant milestone of turning 18. I urge you to show up and vote. Trust me, it is truly a proud moment when one’s finger is inked as a mark of participation.
Let us unite as one voice, one nation and one vision.
Jai Hind!!
